Sweetwater Cross Country opens season at Victor Ashe meet
Sweetwater High School's cross country team kicked off the 2024 season at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Aug. 31. The event, held in Knoxville, Tennessee, saw participation from 107 schools across high school, middle school, and elementary levels.
The Lady Wildcats had three runners in the race. Katie Goforth finished 81st with a time of 24:08.92. Lorelai Zillick took 141st place with a time of 26:48.43, while Lauren Lyon finished 157th with a time of 27:44.56.
The Wildcats’ varsity boys team had nine runners. McCade Frye led the group with a 42nd place finish and a time of 17:50.02. Nicky Pierce followed in 110th place with a time of 19:39.02. Other notable finishes included Parker Willett (192nd, 21:52.53), Aiden McKenzie (200th, 22:00.28), Josh Hawkins (202nd, 22:09.53), Bill Goforth (212th, 22:29.78), Luke Dalton (216th, 22:40.63), Landon Murphy (236th, 23:49.53), and Jon Walters (255th, 26:29.03).
The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Norris Dam Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Norris, Tennessee.
